At AIT Home Delivery, we are passionate about giving young people the opportunity to experience the logistics industry in a real, hands-on way. Through offering work experience, we aim to open the doors to every part of the business from Customer Service and Warehouse Operations, to Culture, Marketing, and Sales. Our goal is simple: to help students discover where their interests and strengths truly lie as they begin to make decisions about employment, further education, and apprenticeships.
Last week, we were delighted to welcome Jaia, a student from the local area, who joined us for a week of immersive work experience. After hearing about AIT’s journey, growing from a small business into part of a global organization, she was intrigued to learn more about the logistics world and what happens behind the scenes.
Over the week, Jaia spent time in several departments, taking in the scale of the operation and the variety of roles involved. She contributed to real tasks too, which she will take back to school as part of her coursework. We asked Jaia a few questions about her week with us, and here’s what she had to say:
What are you studying, and why did you choose it?
“I’m studying Social Sciences because I love learning about how and why people behave the way they do. Subjects like sociology and law really interest me.”
Why did you choose AIT Home Delivery for work experience?
“I knew AIT had a wide range of roles, and I wanted to see how a real business works day to day. It ties in well with my studies, especially understanding people, problem-solving, and handling different situations.”
What did you find most interesting?
“Project Management! There are so many moving parts and it was cool to see how everything connects to meet customer needs.”
If you could work in any department, which would it be?
“Project Management, there’s always something happening and lots to think about.”
What surprised you the most?
“The scale of the operation. I didn’t realise how big it all was until I saw it.”
What would you like to explore more next time?
“The warehouse. Watching everything run in real time was fascinating.”
Has this experience helped you think about your future?
“Yes, definitely. I love being in a work environment. I already have two jobs while studying, so being here has given me even more skills. It’s helped me think more about whether I want to go into further education, an apprenticeship, or full-time work. I also loved working with the Customer Service team, they’re all around my age and really driven. I think I will consider applying for a temp role within AIT in the future”
Any advice for future students doing work experience here?
“Be open-minded. Explore the business, ask questions, and be nice. Everyone here is so friendly!”
We’re incredibly proud of how engaged, enthusiastic, and motivated Jaia was during her time with us. Giving young people real exposure to the world of work is something we care deeply about, and we look forward to welcoming more students through our doors in the months ahead.
